More about your care

What is it?

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory condition of the central facial skin. It shows as flushing and persistent redness across the cheeks, nose, forehead and chin, often with small visible vessels, and in some cases with papules and pustules that are mistaken for acne.

It runs in flares triggered by sun, heat, alcohol, spicy food, hot drinks or stress. It can also affect the eyes, with a gritty feeling, burning or red eyelids.

In the online consultation, the doctor identifies the predominant subtype from your photos, rules out other causes of redness and chooses a topical treatment. Rosacea is controlled rather than cured, so the plan includes sun protection and trigger management.

Read the full condition information

The doctor assesses the pattern of redness and spots in your photos and prescribes azelaic acid or a compounded formula depending on whether redness or papules dominate. Eye symptoms are referred to in-person care.

HOW COMMON IT IS

Common in fair-skinned adults between 30 and 60, and diagnosed more often in women, although forms with thickening of the nose are more frequent in men.

CAUSES

  • Genetic predisposition
  • Altered vascular and immune regulation in the skin
  • Reaction to the Demodex mite and associated bacteria
  • Environmental triggers: sun, heat, cold, wind
  • Dietary triggers: alcohol, spicy food, hot drinks
  • Emotional stress and intense exercise

TREATMENT APPROACHES

  • Azelaic acid 15% gel, twice daily, as the first-line option for papules and pustules
  • Compounded formula for persistent redness, once daily for about three months
  • Compounded formula for papules and pustules, once daily for about three months
  • Daily SPF 50 sun protection and fragrance-free skincare
  • Identifying and avoiding personal triggers
  • Oral antibiotics, low-dose isotretinoin or laser only through in-person care

WHEN TO SEE A DOCTOR

See a doctor if facial redness is persistent or comes with spots that do not respond to skincare. If you have eye symptoms (red eyes, burning, a gritty feeling), thickening of the nose or an unclear diagnosis, you need an in-person assessment; the online consultation screens for this and refers you.

Rosacea sits within the dermatology area that Hi-Doctor covers. Our doctors review your case individually, not through an algorithm, and propose a therapeutic approach when indicated.
You fill in a dermatology-oriented medical questionnaire (~5 min). An EU-licensed doctor reviews your clinical history, current medication, allergies and background in less than 2 hours on average. If clarifications are needed, they message you via the private chat in your account.
The doctor proposes the most appropriate treatment among those authorised in the EU for dermatology. A skin consultation is a €40 one-off. Other areas: €25/month for weight loss, €15/month (billed €45 every 90 days) for hair growth and €35 per sexual health consultation. If your case is not eligible, the applicable fee is refunded in full.
It depends on the case. For dermatology, reasonable timelines are explained during the consultation and follow-up lives inside the private chat. The full medical record stays in an auditable thread inside your account.
Yes. Hi-Doctor runs 100% online across the EU, so from Prague you can fill in the questionnaire and receive the medical review without travelling. The electronic prescription issued by the licensed doctor is valid at any EU pharmacy under Directive 2011/24/EU; outside Spain the pharmacist dispenses the locally marketed equivalent of the same active ingredient.
The doctor reviews its appearance and progression, your history, allergies, current products and clear photos when needed. If your skin needs an in-person examination, the doctor refers you before prescribing.
The private electronic prescription (Receta Médica Privada Electrónica) is issued by a licensed doctor in Spain. It is a PDF carrying every field required by EU Directive 2011/24/EU (patient, prescriber with country of registration, active ingredient, dose), which makes it legally recognised across all 27 EU member states. In Spanish pharmacies it is dispensed from the QR; outside Spain, the pharmacist dispenses the locally marketed equivalent of the same active ingredient.
