Skin ageing, Spain

Fine lines and sun-damage texture: prescription tretinoin, introduced gradually.

€40once
  • Assessed by an EU-licensed doctor
  • Oral, topical or compounded treatment
  • Full refund if not approved

What is it?

Skin ageing combines the passage of time with the damage accumulated from ultraviolet radiation, which is the main cause of fine lines, uneven texture, dark spots and loss of radiance on the face. This part, photoageing, is what responds to topical treatment.

Topical tretinoin is the retinoid with the most decades of evidence: it normalises cell turnover, stimulates dermal collagen and improves fine lines, texture and tone with continued use. Its effects are gradual and are lost if it is stopped.

In the online consultation, the doctor reviews your skin and photos, rules out lesions that need an in-person examination and prescribes tretinoin 0.05% with a gradual introduction schedule and daily sun protection.

About skin ageing

What is Skin ageing?
Skin ageing sits within the dermatology area that Hi-Doctor covers. Our doctors review your case individually, not through an algorithm, and propose a therapeutic approach when indicated.
You fill in a dermatology-oriented medical questionnaire (~5 min). An EU-licensed doctor reviews your clinical history, current medication, allergies and background in less than 2 hours on average. If clarifications are needed, they message you via the private chat in your account.
The doctor proposes the most appropriate treatment among those authorised in the EU for dermatology. A skin consultation is a €40 one-off. Other areas: €25/month for weight loss, €15/month (billed €45 every 90 days) for hair growth and €35 per sexual health consultation. If your case is not eligible, the applicable fee is refunded in full.
It depends on the case. For dermatology, reasonable timelines are explained during the consultation and follow-up lives inside the private chat. The full medical record stays in an auditable thread inside your account.

Topical tretinoin is the best-studied treatment for photoageing. A doctor prescribes it at 0.05%, explains how to start without irritation and sets daily sun protection as the foundation of the plan.

HOW COMMON IT IS

Universal with age; the signs of photoageing appear earlier and more strongly in fair skin and in people with high cumulative sun exposure.

CAUSES

  • Cumulative exposure to ultraviolet radiation
  • Smoking
  • Genetic predisposition and fair skin type
  • Progressive loss of collagen and elastin with age
  • Hormonal changes, particularly after menopause
  • Pollution and lack of sleep as contributing factors

TREATMENT APPROACHES

  • Tretinoin 0.05% cream, once nightly, introduced gradually
  • Daily SPF 50+ sun protection as the foundation of treatment and prevention
  • Fragrance-free moisturiser and pausing exfoliants during the adjustment period
  • Review at 3 to 6 months to adjust frequency or tolerance
  • Stopping smoking
  • In-clinic procedures (laser, peels, injectables) only in person

WHEN TO SEE A DOCTOR

See a doctor if you want to treat fine lines and texture with a prescription retinoid rather than cosmetics. Any new, changing or bleeding lesion must be examined in person before starting. Tretinoin is not prescribed during pregnancy, while planning one, or while breastfeeding.

Yes. Hi-Doctor runs 100% online across the EU, so from Spain you can fill in the questionnaire and receive the medical review without travelling. The electronic prescription issued by the licensed doctor is valid at any EU pharmacy under Directive 2011/24/EU; in Spain it is dispensed directly from the prescription QR.
The doctor reviews its appearance and progression, your history, allergies, current products and clear photos when needed. If your skin needs an in-person examination, the doctor refers you before prescribing.
The private electronic prescription (Receta Médica Privada Electrónica) is issued by a licensed doctor in Spain. It is a PDF carrying every field required by EU Directive 2011/24/EU (patient, prescriber with country of registration, active ingredient, dose), which makes it legally recognised across all 27 EU member states. In Spanish pharmacies it is dispensed from the QR; outside Spain, the pharmacist dispenses the locally marketed equivalent of the same active ingredient.
