Short answer: yes, Wegovy is available in Spanish pharmacies — but only with a prescription, and you pay for it in full. Spain's public health system does not fund semaglutide for weight management, so the cost falls on the patient whether the prescription is public or private.

If you live in Spain, are moving there, or are spending a long stretch there, this page covers what actually matters: whether a farmacia will dispense it, what you pay and to whom, how to get a valid prescription without waiting weeks for a clinic appointment, and what happens if you try to collect outside Spain.

Can you buy Wegovy in a Spanish pharmacy?

Yes — Wegovy is authorised and marketed in Spain, and pharmacies dispense it. Two conditions apply.

You need a valid prescription. Semaglutide is a prescription-only medicine. Spanish pharmacies are legally required to see a prescription before dispensing, for residents and visitors alike. There is no over-the-counter version, and any website offering one without a prescription is operating illegally.

You pay the full retail price. Weight management is not a funded indication in Spain — Wegovy has been formally excluded from public cover since April 2023 — so there is no subsidy regardless of how the prescription was issued.

The real obstacle for most people is not the law, it is the appointment. Private endocrinology slots in Spain can run weeks out, and the public system will not prescribe for weight management. That is the gap an online consultation fills.

How to get a Wegovy prescription in Spain without a clinic visit

  1. Complete a medical questionnaire online (2-3 minutes). Weight, height, medical history, current medication, contraindications. No video call, no phone consultation.
  2. An EU-licensed doctor reviews your case individually. Average turnaround is under 4 hours, and always within 24.
  3. You get a decision. If the doctor approves treatment, the electronic prescription lands in your account and you get an email. If they decline, they explain why in writing and your consultation fee is refunded.
  4. You collect at a pharmacy and pay for the medicine there. Hi-Doctor does not sell, dispense or ship medication.

What it costs: two separate payments

Hi-Doctor charges for the medical consultation. The pharmacy charges for the medicine. Two payments, two places, and only the first one is ours.

WhatWho charges itAmount
Consultation with ongoing monitoringHi-Doctor€25 every 28 days
One-off consultation, no renewalHi-Doctor€35, single payment
The medicine itselfYour pharmacyRetail price (PVP), not funded
If the doctor declines treatmentHi-DoctorFull refund

Both options get you the same consultation with the same doctor. The €25-per-28-days plan is built for ongoing treatment — dose reviews and prescription renewals for as long as the doctor considers it appropriate. The €35 one-off is a single assessment with nothing recurring. Cancel the ongoing plan from your account whenever you want.

On the pharmacy side, because Wegovy is not publicly funded it is not in the official nomenclátor either: the manufacturer sets the price freely, so it can vary between pharmacies and change over time. Novo Nordisk cut the two highest doses in March 2026. These are the figures published then, as a reference rather than a guaranteed price:

DoseReference monthly priceFrom
Wegovy 1.7 mg€200.191 March 2026 (−14%)
Wegovy 2.4 mg€223.641 March 2026 (−17.6%)
Wegovy 0.25 / 0.5 / 1 mgBelow the aboveFree price, not officially published

The starting doses cost less than the maintenance doses, but no figures were published for them, so we are not giving you a number we cannot stand behind — ask your pharmacy before dispensing. If you want to compare across markets, we keep a Wegovy price comparison across Europe.

Who qualifies: what the doctor actually assesses

Semaglutide at weight-management doses is authorised for adults with obesity, or with overweight plus at least one weight-related health problem. In practice the doctor looks at this:

CriterionWhat is assessed
BMI ≥ 30 kg/m²Obesity. Sufficient on its own.
BMI ≥ 27 kg/m²Overweight, valid alongside type 2 diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidaemia, sleep apnoea or another weight-related condition.
Personal or family historyMedullary thyroid carcinoma and MEN2 syndrome are contraindications.
Digestive and pancreatic historyPrevious pancreatitis, gastroparesis or active gallbladder disease change the assessment.
Current medicationInteractions, and dose adjustment if you already take a diabetes medicine.
Pregnancy and breastfeedingContraindicated.

You can work out your BMI with the BMI calculator first. Meeting the threshold does not guarantee approval — the doctor assesses the whole picture, and a share of consultations end in a no. That is exactly why the fee is refunded when it happens.

Wegovy, Ozempic and Mounjaro in Spain: what is actually different

The row that matters is the third. Wegovy and Ozempic are the same molecule at different doses and with different authorisations. Using Ozempic to lose weight is off-label — possible under a doctor's judgement, but not the default, and not what a weight-management consultation will normally land on.

Same guide for the other two: getting Mounjaro online in Spain and getting an Ozempic prescription online in Spain.

Wegovy tablets: authorised in Spain, not yet on sale

The oral version of semaglutide is not a new brand — it is Wegovy itself, in tablet form. The European Commission approved it on 15 July 2026, and Spain's medicines agency has had it on the register since 22 July 2026 in 1.5, 4, 9 and 25 mg strengths.

Here is the part almost nobody spells out: authorised is not the same as marketed. As of September 2026, none of the four oral presentations is listed as marketed in the Spanish register. In practice your pharmacy cannot order them. What is dispensed in Spain is still the injectable pen.

Germany became the first EU country to put it on sale, on 1 September 2026, in a €170–280 per month range and without public reimbursement. In Spain the tablets have already been excluded from public funding with effect from 1 September 2026, so when they do arrive they will be paid in full.

There is no official Spanish launch date. Neither the manufacturer nor the agency has committed to one, and the remaining steps — national code, therapeutic positioning report, pricing — can take months. If you have read that it is "already on sale in Spain", that is not true yet. We go into more detail in the EU's first GLP-1 pill, explained.

What Wegovy does, and how long it takes

Semaglutide mimics GLP-1, a hormone the gut releases when you eat. It slows gastric emptying so fullness lasts longer, and acts on appetite regulation. The practical effect is eating less without fighting hunger all day.

What it does not do: burn fat on its own, replace changes to diet and activity, or produce results in a week. The dose escalates in steps over months precisely so the body tolerates it, and results are measured in months. If treatment stops without anything else having changed, weight tends to return — that is well documented and worth knowing before you start.

Side effects and when to stop

The common ones are digestive and cluster around starting treatment or stepping up a dose: nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting, abdominal pain. These are usually mild and settle.

Some signals mean stopping and seeking medical attention without waiting: severe persistent abdominal pain radiating to the back, vomiting that will not stop, signs of an allergic reaction (swelling of the face, lips or tongue, difficulty breathing), or sudden vision changes if you have diabetic retinopathy.

Throughout treatment you can message your doctor from the private chat in your account. Every clinical conversation stays there, in an auditable record — no WhatsApp, no SMS.

Using a prescription across borders

The prescription a Hi-Doctor doctor issues is a Spanish private electronic prescription, digitally signed. You receive it as a PDF in your account and by email.

In Spain, the pharmacy scans the QR code, validates it against the central registry and dispenses the product on the prescription.

Elsewhere in the EU, it works differently. The prescription carries the elements Commission Implementing Directive 2012/52/EU requires for cross-border prescriptions: patient identification, prescriber identification and country, and the medicine by its international nonproprietary name. Directive 2011/24/EU requires each Member State to recognise a prescription issued in another Member State for a medicine authorised on its territory, and the pharmacist dispenses the locally marketed equivalent of the same active ingredient. Recognition is not automatic or guaranteed — the pharmacist keeps the right to refuse. Plan for that possibility if you will collect outside Spain.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

A Spanish pharmacy dispenses against a valid prescription regardless of your residency. What you need is the prescription itself and photo ID matching it. Hi-Doctor consults with EU residents.
