Clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide safety summary
This antibiotic and benzoyl-peroxide gel treats mild to moderate inflammatory acne for a limited course.

What it's used for
- Use only as prescribed on the affected skin.
- Follow the treatment plan and review schedule your doctor gives you.
Most common side effects
- Redness, peeling, dryness, burning or itching.
- Sensitivity to sunlight and irritation from other acne products.
Serious side effects: stop and seek care
- Severe, persistent or bloody diarrhoea, including after treatment stops.
- Severe swelling, breathing difficulty or widespread blistering.
Who should not use it
- Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis or previous antibiotic-associated colitis.
- Allergy to clindamycin, lincomycin, benzoyl peroxide or any ingredient.
Interactions to flag
- Do not use with topical erythromycin; tell the doctor about recent clindamycin use.
- Separate other retinoids and irritating products unless your doctor says otherwise.

- Skin irritation is severe or the acne is not improving by review.
